Basic Functions

Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination and diagnostic tests. Interprets the data, develops and implements a plan of treatment, follows through on a continuum of patient care across the health-illness continuum and lifespan within protocols set forth and approved by both the nurse practitioner and practice physicians.

Qualifications
  • Currently licensed in South Carolina as a Registered Nurse.
  • Evidence of certification by an appropriate nationally recognized credentialing organization.
  • Masters degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Proficiency in personal computers preferred.
  • Medical Terminology preferred.
  • Outpatient or physician practice experience preferred.

Pharmacy Technician —Oncology

Basic Functions

The pharmacy technician provides support services in the provision of pharmaceutical services.

Pharmacy Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promptly and accurately prepares and labels medications and sterile pharmaceutical products including chemotherapy agents under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels in the infusion center and pharmacy.
  • Prepares and transmits pharmacy medication orders and restocks and reorders pharmacy supplies.
  • Restocks automated dispensing machines.
  • Fill prescriptions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Responsible for labeling and pre-packing medications.
  • Delivers medications to infusion center as needed.
  • Provides training for new employees and students.
  • Suggests ideas for controlling costs.
  • Assists in maintaining order and cleanliness in the pharmacy.
  • Performs documenting and record keeping tasks for control substances.
  • Responsible for medication charges and credits.
  • Processes medication transfers and discharges.
  • Performs aseptic technique in the IV area to prepare all types of parenteral solutions, hyperalimentations, irrigating solutions, chemotherapy, and other injectable items.
  • Works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Responsible for daily maintenance of laminar flow hoods; daily monitor of freezer and refrigerator temperature; culture hoods and change filters on a periodic basis.
  • Order medications and supplies as needed.
  • Responsible for unit inspections including checking for medication expiration dates.
  • Attends practice staff meetings and other ad hoc committee meetings.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • 1 year medical or pharmacy experience required.
  • Intravenous admixture preparation experience is required.
  • Registration or eligible with the Board of Pharmacy required.
  • Hospital yearly in-services required.
  • Associates degree or higher preferred.
  • Pharmacy technician certification desired.
  • Proficient with computers; experience with oncology software and computer order entry preferred.
